This combination provides linoleic acid (LA) and gamma linoleic acid (GLA), both essential omega-6 fatty acids that the body cannot produce itself and must be supplied through diet or supplements. The body actually metabolizes GLA from LA, which can also be found in safflower, hemp, and sunflower oils. It is also found in human breast milk.
The body uses GLA to produce hormone-like substances called prostaglandins.
Cholesterol metabolism has also been linked to linoleic acid: it contributes to the maintenance of normal blood cholesterol levels.
